It’s incredibly sad that this is even an issue in the community let alone with the creator at times, look at the real world charm of Hero and Kel. I made this to help people if they struggle to get the colors, this is free to use and I did the work so I really do hope people will consider using them so they don’t mess up on something like this. The boxes below are the colors that I use to shade these characters but everything else is from the game if not slightly darker. And because this is such a huge issues in the community, I made palettes for characters that are of the colors DIRECTLY FROM THE GAME if not DARKER. Now, this post is not here to trash on other artists however this is incredibly racist of them to do whether it’s an accident or not. Here is another artist and a direct example of them whitewashing. Here’s a direct example of this person white washing. Now they’re a wonderful artist but just by scrolling through their art you can literally see how Kel and Hero both are considerably lighter than they are in canon game. don’t believe me? Look at this artist for an example. I’m bringing this up because of the amount of whitewashing done in this community. Why am I talking about whitewashing? Well, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see why this is wrong and harmful. It really is not that hard especially when there are plenty of guides out on the internet on how to draw poc people correctly. Another huge issue is making these dark skinned characters a grey tone. Here are some more sources you can read about the topic. Another source says that whitewashing is “the practice of using only white actors, models, or performers, especially the practice of using a white actor to play a character who is not white”. This can be done with a white actor replacing a minority actor in the portrayal of a character of color or drawing a character lighter than they are in media they come from. Lets talk about whitewashing! According to this source, whitewashing is the practice of erasing people of color either through replacing a minority character with a white character.
